DreamCatchers is an Auxiliary of the Huntington Beach Assistance League and it originated in 1993 by a group of working women who had an interest in helping the community but had a limited amount of time to donate. DreamCatchers was chartered in 1994 and at that time became an official Auxiliary of Assistance League.
Today this Auxiliary has 40 active members that meet in the chapter house meeting room on the 2nd Wednesday of the Month at 7 p.m. The members volunteer one Saturday of the month to work at the Thrift Store and participate in the annual fundraising event each year. This professional auxiliary funds and administers it own philanthropic programs.
- Operation School Bell® is the signature program of Assistance League. The motto of Operation School Bell is "Outfitting Children for Scholastic Success." As DreamCatchers, we work to help clothe schoolchildren of low income families. In addition, each year we contribute monies to our chapter to help fund this program.
- Therapeutic Riding Center in Huntington Beach uses horses to provide physical therapy for severely handicapped children. DreamCatchers provides scholarships for students whose families cannot afford this therapy due to financial hardship.
- South Coast Alliance for the Mentally Impaired (SCAMI) is a program DreamCatchers started supporting in 1996. We provide clothing from our Thrift Shop, gifts and personal care items throughout the year to this outpatient program located in Huntington Beach.
- Support for Our Seniors gives local seniors grocery certificates and ACCESS passes. These are distributed to seniors in need at the discretion of social workers at the Rogers Senior Center in Huntington Beach.
- Teacher Assistance Program is our newest program. We're excited about having the opportunity to welcome first year teachers to the teaching profession with supplies as well as a gift card for Lakeshore Learning Store.
